In keeping UBC Campus as a Living Lab, we have pursued best practice neighbourhood planning throughout the process, drawing from leading North American and international expertise.

Sustainable Neighbourhood Indicator Research

To ensure UBC is adhering to best neighbourhood planning practices, we engaged BCN Ecologia, a leading research agency from Barcelona grounded in principles of ecology and regenerative urban systems, and whose indicator-based approach guides the design of new urban developments in ways that respond to current challenges related to sustainability. BCN assessed the two options against 25 performance indicators for sustainable neighbourhood planning. See below for a summary of results:

UBC ENGAGEMENT PRINCIPLES

The Stadium Neighbourhood planning process is guided by UBC Campus and Community Planning’s Engagement Principles, which were adopted by the Board of Governors in 2014. The Principles were created through a consultation process with campus stakeholders and neighbouring partners, including the UNA, student government, the City of Vancouver and Musqueam. They reflect best practice recommended by the International Association of Public Participation and create a clarity and transparency to how UBC defines, designs, implements and concludes public engagement in our land use and community planning process.

Partnerships with UBC Academic Researchers
